Tinubu Hails Hausa People as Pillars of Nigeria’s Unity, Progress

President Bola Tinubu has described the Hausa people as pillars of Nigeria’s unity and progress, acknowledging their contributions to the country’s social and cultural development.

Tinubu made the remark in a message posted on his official X handle on Wednesday as Hausa communities in Nigeria and other parts of the world marked the 2026 Hausa Day, also known as Ranar Hausa.

The President also highlighted the growing influence of the Hausa language, saying it has become an important language of communication, unity and commerce across the world.

“The Hausa people are great pillars who play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu congratulated the Hausa community on the occasion, noting that this year’s celebration was taking place at the historic Daura Palace in Katsina State.

“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today,” the President said.

LEADERSHIP reports Hausa Day is observed annually on August 26 to promote the Hausa language and celebrate the culture and heritage of Hausa-speaking people.

The annual observance began as a social media initiative led by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari, with the aim of encouraging the use of Hausa on digital platforms and drawing attention to its cultural significance.

Over the years, the celebration has gained international recognition among Hausa communities, Although World Hausa Day has yet to receive formal recognition from the United Nations, it has continued to grow in popularity.

Hausa is one of Nigeria’s major indigenous languages and among the most widely spoken languages in Africa, with millions of speakers across the continent and other parts of the world.
