Eagle Online Founder Dotun Oladipo Dies At 56

Founder and managing editor of Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has died at the age of 56.

Oladipo suddenly took ill in his office on Tuesday and died hours later at a hospital he drove himself to, according to Thecable online.

His death was confirmed by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), of which he was a former president.

GOCOP President, Danlami Nmodu, announced Oladipo’s death on the guild’s WhatsApp platform.

“It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today,” he wrote.

“May his soul rest in peace. Amen.”

Oladipo was also the founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).

Nkanu Egbe, the general secretary of IMPCMS, announced his death in a statement on Wednesday morning.

“It is with profound sorrow that I announce the sudden death of our President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, who passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Lagos, at the age of 56,” the statement read in part.

Egbe described Oladipo’s death as a devastating loss to the cooperative and the Nigerian journalism profession.

He said Oladipo led the cooperative with dedication while pursuing a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly three decades.

The executive committee, he added, would provide further details on funeral arrangements, condolence visits and interim leadership as they become available.

Members of the cooperative were also urged to keep Oladipo’s family in their prayers.

Oladipo, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, was a former politics editor at PUNCH Newspapers.

He also worked with Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun before founding Eagle Online.
