The German Embassy in Nigeria has warned visa applicants against relying on so-called “visa agents” for information about travelling to Germany.
In a recent post on X, the embassy urged Nigerians to be cautious about information from individuals claiming special knowledge or access to the German visa process.
The embassy said applicants should verify visa-related information directly with the German mission rather than relying on claims from visa agents.
“Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly,” the embassy said.
It also asked Nigerians to share some of the claims they had heard from “visa agents” in the comments, saying it would address them in upcoming posts.
The German mission made its position on visa agents clear, stating: “We DO NOT WORK with any ‘Visa Agents’!”
The embassy added that applicants do not need to depend on agents to access official information, as details about German visas and application procedures are freely available through its website.
The warning came as many Nigerians seeking to travel to Germany rely on third parties for assistance with visa applications, including for tourism, study, employment and family reunification.
The embassy’s clarification means applicants should be wary of anyone claiming to represent the German Embassy or suggesting that they have special influence over visa decisions.
Official German visa information for applicants in Nigeria is available through the German Missions in Nigeria.
