Police Foil Lynching Of 2 Over Motorcycle Theft

Police in Kebbi State have foiled an attempt by a mob to lynch two persons suspected of motorcycle theft and recovered seven motorcycles following a violent incident that occurred in Gesse Phase 1 area of the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday by the spokesman of the police command, SP Bashir Usman, said the violence occurred on Wednesday and involved two suspects, Rufa’i Salihu and Aliyu Muhammad who were attacked by a mob.

The police quickly intervened and rescued the suspects who sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.  SP Usman further revealed that situation subsequently escalated as the mob attempted to attack a police facility in the area.

He added that the two suspects are currently under police custody while investigation continued.

The commissioner of police,  Umar Muhammad Hadejia who condemned the mob action, said  the command takes necessary action against whoever takes the law into his  hands and would face the full consequences.
