Flooding Paralyzes Abuja Airport Road, Submerges Lugbe Area

A heavy downpour has resulted in significant flooding along the airport road and in the Lugbe area of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), leaving residents and motorists stranded.

Numerous videos shared on social media depicted motorists grappling to navigate the inundated airport road.

Residents took to social media to express their frustration over the flooding, which followed the intense rainfall.

Abuja has not previously experienced flooding on the express road leading to the airport, though there have been reports of the Trade More area in Lugbe anticipating such conditions.

“Lugbe, Abuja is currently flooded. Heavy rain has blocked the federal road. Thousands of cars are stranded. No movement. Avoid the area,” one resident posted on a social media platform.

Dennis Eche remarked, “Wike, it’s time to take action; areas that have never seen flooding before are now affected. Most green spaces that used to be parks and gardens have been allocated for development, and there are massive construction projects underway.”

Ola Tunde also posted, “The rain hasn’t stopped since I started typing this. We’ve never seen this kind of rain in Abuja before—it’s been pouring heavily for over nine hours without a break.”

Some users on social media commented, “Abuja is sinking. The airport road and Lugbe area are currently underwater. The flooding on the highway is severe, and traffic is at a standstill.”

Another user noted, “Abuja is starting to resemble Lagos. Just look at how flooded everything is after the rain.”
