Wike Mourns Dan Orbih, Says ‘I’ve Lost A True Friend, Political Associate’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the death of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman, South South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, as a painful loss, saying he has lost a true friend and political associate.

Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026.

In a condolence message issued through his senior special assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the late politician as “a friend indeed” and one of the prominent figures in the political landscape of Edo State.

The minister said Orbih’s death represented the “fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” adding that his absence would be deeply felt by his family, associates and the political community.

Wike said the late PDP chieftain was not only a political ally but also a dependable friend who exemplified the qualities expected of a good associate.

“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally. Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in friendship and political associate. But we can’t question God. He gives and He takes,” Wike said.

He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, particularly his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Miss Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; as well as his brothers, sisters and other members of the extended family.

“On behalf of myself, my family and political associates, I commiserate with the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih, on the demise of Chief Dan Orbih, a good friend, a great politician, and a man of faith in the Almighty God,” the minister said.

Wike prayed God to grant the family the strength to bear the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.

“May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
