43 Feared Dead, Others Missing In Rivers Illegal Oil-Siphoning Incident

At least 43 persons are feared dead, while several others are still missing following an oil-related incident in Rivers State, the police have said.

The incident reportedly occurred during an illegal oil-siphoning operation, with the victims believed to have been exposed to hazardous substances.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying efforts were underway to establish the exact number of casualties and locate those still unaccounted for.

The Command said investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible for the illegal operation.

Rescue and security personnel were also said to be working at the scene as authorities continued efforts to recover possible victims and ascertain the full extent of the tragedy.

The incident has again raised concerns over the dangers associated with illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta, where unauthorised refining and oil siphoning have continued to pose risks to lives and the environment.
