Hunter Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, has jokingly described himself as “48.5 percent gay” during a lighthearted conversation about sexuality on The Luke Beasley Show.
The 56-year-old made the comments during an interview with political commentator Luke Beasley, who openly identifies as gay and raised the subject while the two discussed relationships and personal identity.
When Beasley asked Hunter if he was gay, he initially responded, “Only a little bit.” Asked whether he meant more or less than 50 per cent, Hunter jokingly settled on “48.6 percent.”
The figure subsequently became a running joke during the nearly 90-minute conversation, with Hunter adjusting the percentage before eventually declaring near the end of the interview that he was “back up to 48.5 percent gay.”
At another point, Beasley asked Hunter whether he would be his type. Continuing the hypothetical exchange, Hunter replied that if he were gay, he would prefer someone “a little bit more masculine.”
The conversation also touched on Hunter’s past struggles with substance abuse. When Beasley showed him an AI-generated image depicting the pair in an intimate embrace, Hunter joked that the version of himself portrayed in the image belonged to his pre-2019 period, before he became sober.
The comments have since attracted widespread attention online, with some outlets describing them as a humorous coming-out moment, while others have noted the clearly playful nature of the exchange.
Hunter has been married to Melissa Cohen since 2019. He was previously married to Kathleen Buhle, with whom he has three daughters.
The unusual “48.5 percent” declaration has nevertheless given the former first son another viral moment as he continues a series of candid podcast and media appearances.
