Troops Rescue 6 Kidnap Victims After Gun Battle With Terrorists In Kebbi

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued six kidnapped victims following an encounter with suspected terrorists along the Wasagu-Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The rescue operation was conducted on September 2, 2026, after troops received credible intelligence about the presence of suspected terrorists at Mehinua Village along the route.

Acting on the intelligence, troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, mobilised to the area to disrupt the terrorists’ activities and rescue the victims.

On arrival, the troops reportedly made contact with the suspected terrorists, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.

The soldiers subsequently deployed superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the surrounding area.

The troops secured the location and rescued all six victims unharmed.

A vehicle recovered during the operation was also taken into custody. The rescued victims and the vehicle were subsequently handed over to relevant community authorities for further necessary action.

The operation highlights the importance of timely intelligence and rapid military response in tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities along vulnerable routes in the North-West.

The successful intervention also underscores the role of sustained security operations in protecting communities, securing major access routes and restoring public confidence in areas affected by terrorist and criminal activities.
