2027: Igbos In North Target 2m Votes For Tinubu

Igbo residents in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have resolved to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, targeting at least two million votes for the president.

Director-general of the Igbo Political Movement, 19 Northern States and FCT, Chief John Amaechi Onwe, disclosed this in an interview with journalists, saying the decision was part of the community’s resolve to actively participate in the politics of the North rather than remain in opposition.

Onwe said the movement had developed a grassroots structure comprising Igbo community presidents in the 19 Northern states and the FCT, state-level leadership, local government chairmen and town union structures, which he said would be deployed to mobilise support for the APC.

He said the movement was an offshoot of the Igbo Delegate Assembly, which, according to him, comprises Igbo indigenes across Northern Nigeria and the FCT.

Onwe said Igbo residents in the North constitute a significant voting population that should not be taken for granted by political parties and candidates seeking elective offices in the region.

He said the community had collectively agreed not to play opposition politics but to support the government in power.

“We, the Igbos in Northern Nigeria, are no longer ready to play opposition. We have done that in the past and it has not worked for us. So, collectively, we have agreed to support the government of the day, from the national level down to the states,” he said.

The Igbo leader also defended the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, saying that although Nigerians were currently facing difficulties, the reforms were laying the foundation for a stronger economy.

He urged Nigerians to be patient and prepared to make sacrifices for the country to get its economy right.
