BREAKING: Attack On Peter Obi: Over 10 Suspects Hospitalised At Benue Varsity Hospital

No fewer than 10 people suspected to have participated in the attack on the convoy of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Tuesday were critically injured and hospitalised at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi for urgent medical attention.

Recall that suspected thugs had attacked the convoy of Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi along the Gboko-Makurdi Expressway in Makurdi.

The thugs had prevented him from visiting Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area to sympathise with victims of the June 13, 2025, terrorist attack.

Obi accused Governor Hyacinth Alia’s Special Assistant on Youths of masterminding the attack and blocking him from proceeding to pay a condolence visit to the terrorist attack victims.

Obi had arrived in Makurdi, the state capital, in the morning and was on his way to Yelwata when the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, one of the officials of BSUTH who pleaded anonymity told LEADERSHIP that over 10 wounded youths were brought to the hospital and they were receiving treatment, “Over ten wounded victims were brought in here yesterday for urgent medical attention. They are being treated. I don’t know where they came from. We don’t know whether they involved in Peter Obi’s incident of yesterday or not. What we know they are accident victims and they are being treated. They are responding to treatment and none of them died” the source stated.

When contacted, the BSUTH Chief Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Hwande did not respond to calls put through his phone over the issue.

However, NDC Benue State Publicity Secretary, Agile-Bem Jabez Ordedoo, in a statement on Wednesday claimed that one of the attackers on the party’s presidential candidate Obi died whlie receiving treatment.

The statement reads, “We regret to announce to you that one amongst the young men sponsored to attack the Presidential and Governorship candidates of NDC has passed on this morning at teaching hospital, Makurdi.

“He has since been deposited at the mortuary, while the rest continue to lie critically unstable at the emergency ward. Their parents are yet ro arrive hence the delay in commencing treatment. We pray for your quick healings” Ordedoo said.

Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Peter Orchia Aondongu was not reachable at the time of filing this report.
