Joe Biden Gives Update On Prostate Cancer Battle

Former United States President, Joe Biden, has disclosed that the radiation treatment he underwent for prostate cancer last year “worked as intended,” while urging American men to prioritise cancer screening.

Biden, 83, made the disclosure in a lengthy social media post on Tuesday to mark Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, saying the occasion had taken on a more personal meaning following his diagnosis.

“The radiation treatment from last fall worked as intended, and I continue to do the things I care about, like finishing my memoir,” Biden wrote.

The former president also expressed appreciation to the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who participated in his treatment.

He said their “skill, dedication, and compassion mean so much.”

Biden used the occasion to encourage men to speak with their doctors about prostate cancer screening, stressing the importance of early detection.

“Talk to your doctors. Ask the hard questions. Do it for yourself, and do it for the people who love you,” he said.

According to Biden, men at average risk of prostate cancer should begin discussing screening with their doctors around age 50, while Black men and those with a family history of the disease should begin such conversations earlier.

The American Cancer Society similarly recommends that men at average risk discuss prostate cancer screening with their doctors from age 50.

It recommends that discussions begin at age 45 for Black men and certain men with a family history of prostate cancer, and at age 40 for some men considered to be at particularly high risk.

Biden’s office had announced in May 2025 that the former president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasised to his bones.

Since then, Biden has continued to make public appearances and provide occasional updates on his health and treatment.

His latest message comes as part of efforts to raise awareness about prostate cancer and encourage men to seek medical advice and screening where appropriate.
