The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed Muslims nationwide to look out for the new crescent of Rabi’ al-Thani 1448 AH on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The directive was contained in a statement on Thursday signed by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.
According to the statement, Friday marks the 29th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal 1448 AH. Muslims are therefore urged to make efforts to sight the new moon.
The Sultanate also called on anyone who sights the crescent to immediately report to the nearest Village or District Head. The information will then be forwarded to the Sultan for verification and official announcement.
