Kano Police Arrest Fake CSP Over Recruitment, Posting Fraud

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer and defrauding members of the public.

Musa, a resident of Kureken Sani Quarters, Kano, was arrested following a distress report over his activities at the 52 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Challawa, Kano, on September 1, 2026.

According to the command, operatives of the Panshekara Police Division acted on credible intelligence and arrested Musa after he allegedly posed as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly targeted unsuspecting members of the public by claiming to be a senior police officer with the influence to facilitate recruitment and postings within the Nigeria Police Force.

The police said Musa allegedly used edited photographs and AI-generated images showing him alongside senior strategic commanders of the Nigeria Police Force to make his claims appear legitimate.

He allegedly used the images, together with the names of senior officers, to convince victims that he could secure police recruitment slots and facilitate transfers in exchange for money.

A search of his residence resulted in the recovery of several items, including one pair of black jacket uniform, two pairs of black shoes, one pair of camouflage uniform, one pair of blue uniform top and N300,000 in cash.

The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, warned members of the public against falling victim to impersonators who exploit technology to perpetrate fraud.

“The Kano State Police Command cautions members of the public to be wary of fraudsters and impersonators who now use photo editing and AI technology to create fake images with senior officers and to extort money under the guise of recruitment, transfer or posting. Members of the public are reminded that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is completely free, and no officer will ever demand money for enlistment or posting.

“Residents are therefore advised to verify the identity of anyone parading as a Police Officer, especially those wearing uniforms or soliciting money, and to promptly report any suspicious person or activity to the nearest Police Station.

“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and to ensuring that criminal elements who abuse the image and uniform of the Nigeria Police Force are brought to justice,” the statement read.
