The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that its electoral collaboration with the Accord Party in Osun State has ended with the recent governorship election in the state.
This was just as the party expressed readiness to mobilise and campaign for its own candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP National Treasurer, Diran Odeyemi, said the agreement between both parties was limited to the August 15 governorship poll, during which the PDP deployed its political structure to support the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke on the Accord platform.
Odeyemi disclosed this in a statement signed by Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi on Friday.
According to him, with the governorship election concluded, the PDP had commenced preparations to prosecute the 2027 elections independently.
He specifically affirmed Fadeyi, popularly known as Ajagunla, as the party’s candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District, urging PDP members and supporters to begin mobilisation for his campaign.
“The agreement between the party and Accord ended with the governorship election and now the party is ready to support and work for Senator Ajagunla during the 2027 poll.
“In the Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla is our candidate and the PDP will campaign and work with him.
“The arrangement we had with Accord in Osun has ended with Governor Adeleke’s election,” Odeyemi stated.
He acknowledged his relationship with Gani Olaoluwa, the Accord senatorial candidate for Osun Central, but stressed that the matter was now a party affair.
“Gani Olaoluwa, the Accord Party Senatorial candidate for Osun Central is my very good friend. I have nothing against him, but this is a party affair. I have been informed as the National Treasurer of the PDP to deliver for the party,” he added.
Fadeyi, who previously served as an All Progressives Congress lawmaker, recently announced his return to the PDP.
He confirmed that he had informed the Senate of his defection and maintained that he would fly the PDP flag in the 2027 Osun Central senatorial election.
“I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate.
“I can also confirm to you that I am the candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 Senate election,” Fadeyi said.
The clarification effectively separates the PDP’s 2027 senatorial contest in Osun from its earlier arrangement with the Accord Party, which centred on Adeleke’s re-election bid.
Meanwhile, the PDP in Abia State has disowned reports that it has constituted or inaugurated a 2027 governorship election campaign council in the state.
The party, in a statement signed by its Caretaker Committee Chairman in Abia, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, urged members, supporters and the general public to disregard reports suggesting that the party had already inaugurated a campaign council.
The state chapter said the PDP had not constituted any such council and would announce its authentic campaign structure at the appropriate time.
It also reaffirmed Dr Anthony Iheanyichukwu Ibeabuchi as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election, saying his name was duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and the PDP Constitution.
“The Abia State Chapter therefore urges Nigerians, especially members and supporters of the PDP in Abia State, to disregard the said report as the party has not inaugurated any governorship campaign council in the State,” the statement said.
The party added that its governorship campaign council would be announced “in due course” and would coordinate its campaign activities across the state.
