2027: Sowore Reaffirms Free Education Pledge

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has renewed his pledge to make education free and compulsory from primary school to university if elected president in 2027.

Sowore restated the commitment in a social media post on Monday, coinciding with the resumption of primary and secondary schools, including Federal Unity Colleges, across the country for the new academic session.

Although the promise forms part of his long-standing campaign agenda, its renewed emphasis comes as millions of pupils and students return to classrooms nationwide, placing education and its associated challenges back in the spotlight.

Sowore said children should not be denied access to education because their parents cannot afford the cost.

“Under our government, education will be FREE, QUALITATIVE, ACCESSIBLE AND COMPULSORY from primary school through university. No child will be denied education because their parents are poor,” he said.

He said an AAC-led government would support the free education policy with school feeding programmes, free textbooks and medical care, improved infrastructure and greater access to modern technology.

The former presidential candidate also pledged to improve teachers’ welfare through regular training, better professional recognition and improved remuneration.

He added that the safety of pupils, students, teachers and school facilities would be prioritised under his proposed administration.

“Education is not a privilege. EDUCATION IS A RIGHT,” Sowore said.

He further said his administration would work to ensure that poverty does not prevent children from receiving education or developing their talents.

“NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. NO TALENT WASTED. NO FAMILY TOO POOR TO EDUCATE THEIR CHILDREN,” he added.
