Gunmen Kill 9 Passengers In Plateau Bus Attack

At least nine passengers were killed after gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus at Dungus Junction in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The passengers were travelling to Jos when the attackers struck at about 9:40 p.m., shortly after the driver stopped at the junction to drop some passengers.

The shooting left the bus riddled with bullets, with blood reportedly visible inside the vehicle. Several other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

A teacher and neighbour of one of the victims, Lawan Suleiman, confirmed the attack, identifying the driver as Ibrahim, whom he said was his former student.

Suleiman said three of those killed were from Bukuru community. He added that the victims’ bodies had been deposited at a hospital as their relatives made arrangements to take them home for burial.

The spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the incident, saying the victims were passengers on their way to Jos when the gunmen attacked the vehicle.

Tengwong said a member of Operation Rainbow was among those killed, while some of the wounded passengers were rushed to hospitals. He added that some of those initially taken for treatment later died.

The Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
