At least five people have died in Los Angeles following a fatal bus collision and a subsequent news helicopter crash near the same site on Tuesday evening, September 15, 2026.
The incident began shortly after 5 p.m. when a Metro bus collided with another vehicle near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue, killing two people and injuring six others who were taken to local hospitals.

Around 7 p.m., while emergency crews were managing the scene, an NBC4 news helicopter crashed between two commercial buildings on the 9100 block of Mason Avenue. The impact set the aircraft and several nearby parked vehicles on fire.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that three people died as a result of the helicopter crash, including two people aboard the aircraft and a pedestrian on the ground. One surviving individual was transported to a local hospital in grave condition.
NBC4 news anchor Colleen Williams confirmed on air during the live broadcast that the station had lost contact with its crew members. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed condolences to the families of the victims during a news conference near the scene on Tuesday night.
