Kano-based TikTok user, Khadija Muhammad, popularly known as ‘Yar Lele’, has been remanded in a correctional facility after she was arraigned over an alleged defamatory and insulting statement.
Khadija was brought before the Upper Sharia Court sitting at Post Office in Kano Municipal, where the police filed charges against her.
The prosecution alleged that Khadija referred to the politician, MD Hassan, using a derogatory expression in a video she posted online.
According to the prosecution, the statement was considered defamatory and insulting to Hassan, a politician from Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Khadija, however, denied the allegations after the charges were read to her in court.
The prosecutor, Barrister Awaisu Sani Lawan, asked the court for more time to present witnesses and other evidence in support of the case.
The court, presided over by Justice Garba Malafa, subsequently ordered Khadija’s remand in a correctional facility.
The case was adjourned until October 14, 2026, for further proceedings.
