2027: Coalition Asks INEC To Recognise Fadojoe As AA Presidential Candidate

A coalition of civil society organisations has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and publish the name of Joseph Oluwadare Fadojoe as the presidential candidate of the Action Alliance (AA).

The coalition, operating under the name Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice, made the demand during a world press conference in Abuja.

The coalition’s convener, Comrade James Okoronkwo, in a statement,  accused INEC of disregarding the appellate court’s judgement by continuing to recognise Adekunle Omo-Aje as the presidential candidate of the Action Alliance for the 2027 general election.

According to him, the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of Udeze as the party’s legitimate national chairman paved the way for the party’s national executive committee, under his leadership, to conduct a presidential primary.

The group stated that Joseph Oluwadare Fadojoe emerged from the primary as the duly elected presidential candidate of the Action Alliance for the 2027 presidential election.

It described INEC’s continued recognition of Omo-Aje as an alleged violation of the court’s judgement and an affront to the rule of law.

The coalition said, “INEC as an institution created by law, cannot and must not be seen to be disobeying the law or choosing which court judgement to obey.”

The civil society organisations called on INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, to take immediate steps to resolve what they described as an electoral anomaly.

Their demands include:

Recognition and publication of Joseph Oluwadare Fadojoe as the Action Alliance’s duly elected presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Withdrawal of the recognition allegedly granted to Adekunle Omo-Aje as the party’s presidential candidate.

Full compliance with the Court of Appeal judgement affirming Kenneth Udeze as the National Chairman of the Action Alliance.

The coalition argued that resolving the dispute was necessary to protect public confidence in the electoral process and uphold judicial authority.

The group warned that failure by INEC to address the matter within a reasonable timeframe could lead to the mobilisation of civil society organisations across Nigeria.

It said such mobilisation would involve peaceful mass action and the exploration of legal options to compel compliance with the court’s judgement.

The coalition’s convener, Comrade James Okoronkwo, expressed confidence in the ability of the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, to uphold the authority of the judiciary and address the concerns raised.

The group reiterated its commitment to defending democracy, the rule of law, and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general election.
