World Cleanup Day: Remi Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Reduce Food Waste

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to reduce food waste and adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment and build cleaner, healthier communities.

She made the call in a message commemorating World Cleanup Day 2026, observed on Sunday,

September 20, with the theme, “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.”

The First Lady said the focus on food waste was particularly important at a time when climate change, conflicts and other global challenges continued to disrupt food production and supply.

She urged Nigerians to become more responsible in how they purchase, prepare, consume and preserve food.

According to her, households, businesses and communities must take steps to reduce food waste, dispose of refuse properly and embrace sustainable practices that protect the environment.

She said collective efforts were necessary to build cleaner and healthier communities for present and future generations.

“Through our collective efforts, we can build cleaner, healthier communities for present and future generations,” she said.

The First Lady wished Nigerians a happy World Cleanup Day 2026.
