Wike Challenges Obi Supporters Over 2023 Rivers Results

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has rejected claims by supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, that Obi won Rivers State.

Wike who spoke during a TVC News Journalists Hangout on Monday, argued that claims based on results from selected polling units could not establish the overall winner of an election conducted across thousands of polling units.

He said Rivers State had more than 7,000 polling units and insisted that the final result could only be determined after the results from all relevant polling units had been collated and declared in accordance with electoral procedures.

“You can win on social media. You can win there. I’m not interested in social media winning. I’m interested practically in the results that are on ground, who won, who was declared. And that’s all,” Wike said.

He also challenged those claiming that Obi won the state to produce the official result sheets and demonstrate their case through the appropriate legal processes.

Wike said the fact that a candidate won a number of polling units in urban areas could not, by itself, establish victory across the entire state.
