‎Mass Defection Hits Ondo PDP As Ex-Gov Aspirant, Others Join APC ‎

‎Hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎The defectors were led by a former PDP governorship aspirant, Mr Bosun Arebuwa, who contested the party’s ticket ahead of the 2024 governorship election.

‎The defectors were received into the APC at the International Culture and Event Centre, Akure, the state capital, on Friday, by leaders of the party led by Chief Olusola Oke, SAN.

‎Speaking on the defection, Arebuwa said he and his supporters from over 3,000 units and 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state had decided to join the APC.

‎He said the decision was driven by their desire to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term, citing what he described as the performance of the administration.‎

‎Arebuwa said, “We have left the PDP. We want to join hands with others to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the second term in office. Mr President has done well. We shall use our resources to support him; that is why we joined the winning party.

‎“We are leaving the PDP with all our supporters from over 3,000 units and 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state. We are ready to work for the APC in Ondo State to ensure President Bola Tinubu and all our candidates win the election in 2027.‎

‎He added that his first assignment in the APC would be to deploy his political experience and capacity towards mobilising support for Tinubu.

‎“My first line of action is to deploy my experience, my capacity to ensure President Bola Tinubu wins the presidential election in January 2027, and we are well prepared because that is our cardinal objective of coming to the APC,” Arebuwa said.

‎He further said, “He has done creditably well. We have not had a good President like this before, so that is why we will use all we have to support him.”

‎Welcoming the defectors, Oke urged them to return to their respective wards and local government areas to work for the APC and strengthen the party’s structures.

‎Oke said, “I welcome all of you to the ruling All Progressives Congress. You will never regret joining the APC. I want to implore you to work for the party at your various wards and local governments.

‎“I specifically welcome Mr Bosun to our party. We know his coming to the APC will add value to the progress of the state.”
