2027: Remain Professional, Apolitical, Naval Chief Tasks Personnel

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has warned Nigerian Navy personnel to remain apolitical in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

He gave the warning yesterday during the 3rd quarter route match for Naval personnel in Abuja.

The Naval Chief, represented by the Director of Manning at the Nigerian Navy Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga stressed the need for physical and mental fitness for successful operations.

He urged every personnel to make physical fitness a continuous habit and an integral part of professional military life.

He said, “The unity and discipline displayed during this Route Match are particularly significant as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections, especially in light of the electioneering campaign season.

“We must remember that the Armed Forces have a solemn responsibility to remain professional, preserve national stability and support the democratic process strictly within the limits of the law and duly authorised directives. Every personnel must, therefore, remain strictly apolitical, non-partisan and professional, avoiding statements, associations, and activities that could negate the Service’s core values and bring the NN into disrepute.”

He commended troops to renew commitment to the service of the dear nation.

“We must maintain our physical fitness to meet the demands of our profession, uphold institutional standards in fulfilling our constitutional responsibilities, and remain operationally prepared to respond whenever duty calls.

At all times, we must remember that our sacred oath to uphold our professional standards in all aspects of NN operations is vital to keeping faith with our responsibility to defend our territorial integrity.”
