2027: We Can’t Return To Economic Carelessness But Vote Tinubu For Sustainability – APC-PPC Spokesperson

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PPC), Spokesperson II, Mallam Alwan Hassan, has appealed to Nigerians to vote President Bola Tinubu at the 2027 general election so the country will not return to an era of economic carelessness in which the people consumed what is meant for the future today.

According to him, the re-election of President Tinubu is a question of stability, sustainability and the need to complete the difficult work of building a stronger economy for future generations.

Hassan who stated this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Sunday, said Tinubu in his first term, embarked on economic reforms that successive administrations and his present competitors had repeatedly acknowledged were necessary but
none possessed either the courage or the political will to implement them.

The APC-PPC Spokesperson II, argued that every serious economist understood that Nigeria was heading towards a fiscal crisis as fuel subsidies had become unsustainable.

“We were borrowing to subsidise consumption, including fuel consumed outside our borders. We were spending trillions of Naira maintaining an artificial foreign-exchange system that rewarded privileged insiders while manufacturers, legitimate businesses and ordinary Nigerians struggled to obtain foreign exchange.

“We were sitting on a time bomb. And President Tinubu chose to defuse it rather than leave it for our children. Let me say this clearly: the reforms President Tinubu has undertaken were unavoidable,” he said.

Hassan declared that anyone promising Nigerians a return to unlimited subsidies, multiple exchange rates and reckless borrowing is either being dishonest or does not understand how an economy is managed, saying such a person cannot be trusted with the future of Nigeria.

He insisted that Tinubu is laying the right economic foundation, saying the work had been difficult, but the results are beginning to show.

Hassan stated that the reforms introduced by the president have significantly increased monthly allocations from the Federation Account (FAAC) to the federal, state and local governments since 2023.

“This means that states now have more resources to build infrastructure, improve public services and invest in healthcare, education and economic development. The resources available to our Governors have increased significantly.

“President Tinubu’s reforms have brought more money and greater responsibility closer to the people through the States. This President also took decisive action in support of financial autonomy for local governments,”he stated.

The APC chieftain also said the Tinubu administration was undertaking one of the most extensive infrastructure programmes in Nigeria’s recent history.

Hassan pointed out that: “in Cross River state, work has been completed on the Calabar–Ugep–Katsina-Ala corridor. Same with Rivers State, at the East–West Road and Eleme Junction axis. In Enugu, the New Artisan Bridge has been reconstructed. The Akpoha Bridge in Ebonyi, the Shendam Bridge in Plateau and the Jimeta Bridge in Adamawa have all been completed.

“Work is also progressing on important corridors across the North-West, North-East, North-Central and South-East, from the Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna Road, to the Kano-Daura-Kongdam Road; in Borno we have the Bama-Banki and Diwali corridor roads; in Kebbi we have the Malando-Ngasike-Wara road; in Enugu and Ebonyi we have the Enugu-Abakaliki road. And there are so many of those.

“Residents of the Federal Capital Territory can see the transformation with their own eyes. From the Wuye Flyover and its connecting roads to the Apo–Wasa corridor and major road projects around Mabushi, Jahi and Maitama, the evidence is visible.”

He said the same investment is reaching healthcare sector with over 4,000 primary healthcare facilities being revitalised across the country to bring essential medical services closer to the communities.

Hassan further noted that through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), students across the country are receiving support for their school fees alongside monthly allowances, saying young Nigerians who might otherwise have dropped out are being given an opportunity to remain in school.

The APC presidential campaign spokesperson said with improved welfare, equipment and operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, significant progress had been recorded against terrorist and bandit networks, particularly in the North-East and North-West.

He noted that several notorious terrorist and bandit commanders, including Halilu Sububu, had been eliminated alongside members of their networks while farmers are returning to previously abandoned lands, commercial activities are resuming and roads are becoming safer.

“My appeal to Nigerians today is simple: we must not go back. We must not take steps that will destroy the gains made over the past three years. Under President Tinubu, economic stability and greater policy clarity that has been achieved are already encouraging new investment…

“We cannot afford to return to an era in which businesses could not obtain foreign exchange, government revenues were swallowed by opaque subsidies and economic decisions were postponed for future generations to pay the price,” he added.

Hassan assured Nigerians that
sacrifices being made now will soon produce relief, saying the next phase of the present administration will concentrate relentlessly on lowering the cost of living, expanding food production, creating jobs, improving electricity supply and ensuring that the benefits of reform reach household incomes.

He said the old system that the likes of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar want Nigeria to return to, appears comfortable but it was consuming the future which President Tinubu chose to rescue.

“More investments are coming. More infrastructure is being built. More young people are receiving educational support. More resources are reaching states and local governments. Nigeria’s economy is recovering its strength and credibility. The reforms must continue. The gains must be protected. The benefits must reach every Nigerian household.

“Nigeria is making progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We will keep that momentum. We will complete the work. And, by the grace of God and with the support of the Nigerian people, we will move from reform to recovery, and from recovery to shared prosperity, under President Tinubu through 2031,”he noted.
