Assailants Stab Gombe Woman To Death, Police Arrest 2 Suspects

Suspected armed assailants have stabbed Aishatu Salisu, a mother of five, to death during an attempt to snatch her mobile phone at her residence in Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe.

The incident occurred in the wee hours, about 4:35 am on Saturday, when the suspects, armed with machetes and cutlasses, reportedly invaded the residence of Inspector Salisu Waziri, a police officer attached to the Safer Highway Patrol.

The murder incident had earlier circulated, with some family members saying the deceased was attacked by suspected phone snatchers inside her home and stabbed during the incident. One of the family members, Usman Ismaila, said her death had left relatives and friends mourning, adding that she was survived by five young children.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, said the assailants attempted to rob Aishatu of her mobile phone. She raised an alarm during the attack, prompting one of the suspects to allegedly stab her with a machete before the attackers fled the scene, leaving the phone behind.

He said the Pantami Divisional Patrol Team was mobilised to the residence after receiving the report and rushed the victim to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where she was pronounced dead.

DSP Buhari stated that following the killing, the Gombe State Police Command intensified efforts and arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the crime.

They were identified as Muhammad Bashir Sale, 20, alias “Full,” and Musa Sale Ahmad, 18, alias “Abba,” both residents of Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe.

According to him, the preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, with a sharp knife also recovered as an exhibit.

He added that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID), Gombe, where investigation into the case is ongoing.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police formation.
