China’s Technology Can Straighten Your Face — VeryDarkMan Tackles Arome Ossai

Controversial social media activist Martins Otsei, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has criticised Nigerian cleric Osayi Arome over his comment that Nigeria’s calling is revival, arguing that the country needs greater focus on innovation, creativity, and practical solutions to its challenges.

VeryDarkMan made the remarks in a video shared on Instagram, where he criticised what he described as an excessive emphasis on prayer and religious revival, while questioning the role of religious institutions in Nigeria’s development.

Reacting to Arome’s preaching, the activist claimed that religious institutions, including churches and mosques, had contributed to the country’s underdevelopment.

He argued that Nigerians possess the intellectual capacity required to develop the country but are not making sufficient use of it.

“It is this kind of preaching that puts Nigeria where it is today. The church and the mosque have contributed to why we are still laid back as a nation. The people that are meant to be innovative and creative are praying every day for a miracle,” he said.

VeryDarkMan further compared Nigeria to countries recognised for their technological and industrial achievements, arguing that Nigerians have similar intellectual potential.

According to him, the difference lies in how people deploy their abilities to solve problems and develop innovations.

“These nations that we look up to have the same brain like us. But instead of us to use our own brains, we’ll go to church,” he said.

The activist also accused Arome of encouraging Nigerians to concentrate on religious activities and financial contributions rather than developing practical solutions to the country’s problems.

He subsequently launched a direct attack on the cleric, using derogatory language while challenging his position on Nigeria’s supposed calling.

Addressing Arome directly, VeryDarkMan said, “Osayi Arome, oga sir, you said the calling of Nigeria is revival, are you not mad? That they should not be talking about Nigeria and showing engines. So na we you dey throw sub.”

VeryDarkMan also questioned what he described as Arome’s reported criticism of Nigerians showcasing technological innovations developed in other countries.

He mocked the cleric’s facial condition while arguing that technological advancement could provide solutions to problems that prayer alone may not address.

He said, “You see that your face wey bend.”

He continued, “Let me show you what technology can do. Let me show you what innovation can do.”

The activist then referenced China’s technological development while making a personal remark about Arome’s facial condition.

“Do you know that they can take you to China, they will straighten that face for you?”

The social media personality defended Nigerians who travel abroad to learn about technology and innovation, as well as those supporting efforts to bring technical expertise into the country.

“We wey dey travel dey show Nigerians say this is innovation and what creativity has done for their nation, wey dey sponsor people come China make them come build Nigeria, we no know wetin we dey do,” he stated.
