Mercy Johnson Confronts Oil Brand Over Continued Use Of Her Image

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has publicly challenged Power Oil over what she says is the continued use of her image in the company’s advertising campaigns, four years after her endorsement deal with the brand ended.

The actress raised the issue on Instagram, questioning why advertisements featuring her are still being displayed without what she described as payment or consultation with her representatives.

Mercy said she had seen her image on buses, billboards and other promotional materials despite the expiration of her contract.

“Help me ask @poweroilng why? It has been years; I have not been paid or compensated for my image being used after my contract expired,” she wrote.

She also called on the company to respond to her team, adding that she did not want the disagreement to escalate.

“Let us not play in dirty waters. Enough is Enough,” she said.

Actress Demands Response From Brand

Mercy did not disclose the terms of her original agreement with Power Oil or specify how much compensation she believes she is owed.

She questioned whether the continued use of an expired endorsement would be acceptable in India, where Power Oil’s parent group has its roots.

The actress’s post has drawn attention to the rights of celebrities whose likenesses are used in commercial campaigns after endorsement agreements come to an end.

Power Oil had not publicly responded to Mercy Johnson’s complaint at the time of reporting.
