2027: I Will Resign As FCT Minister If Tinubu Loses FCT, Rivers — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the presidential election in the FCT and Rivers State in 2027.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during an engagement with members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja, where he also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The minister said his political performance in the FCT would be a measure of his justification for remaining in office, particularly given his influence in the territory.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.

Wike also outlined the political arrangement he said was being developed to support candidates across the FCT ahead of the 2027 elections.

He specifically endorsed Tinubu for president and former FCT Senator Philip Aduda for the Senate, while saying the coalition would also support candidates for the House of Representatives.

“Let us be clear on direction: for the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu! For the Senate, Philip Aduda is a man of the people,” he said.

According to him, the political arrangement in the FCT would bring together supporters across party lines in pursuit of electoral objectives.

“In the FCT, we are running a unified coalition across parties to deliver results,” he said.

The minister’s declaration comes against the backdrop of his continued political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, including his support for Tinubu despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The engagement also touched on issues affecting mechanics and traders in the Apo area, particularly the long-running process of relocating operators and addressing land allocation within the Apo Mechanic Village corridor.
