IBB Varsity Suspends One-Month Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) Chapter, has  suspended the strike embarked upon about a month ago

The ASUU branch has embarked on the action demanding payment of the enhanced salary structure approved nationally for it’s members

LEADERSHIP  reported that the negotiation has dragged for over a month before accepting conditionally the offer of the  Niger State Government  thus the union’s at its  congress agreed to suspend it’s strike with certain conditions

Consequently the ASUU  branch chairman, Galadima Bala, stressed that the strike was suspended conditionally rather than permanently called off.

He  said the decision was taken to honour the Niger State Governor, while also considering the impact of the prolonged strike on students and their parents.

He said the suspension would provide an opportunity for continued discussions with the state government on outstanding issues, adding that the union expects commitments reached with the government to be fulfilled.

The chairman said the decision of the congress was collective and binding on members, urging academic staff to begin preparing to return to their duty posts.

Galadima did not disclose the condition given to the state government but it was learnt that the government has agreed start implementation of the enhanced salary structure with the arrears to offset in installments.
