Residents of Dirdiu, Daksami, Kuva Gaya and Kwakwah communities in Adamawa State have begun benefiting from electricity following the commencement of power supply from newly installed solar mini-grid projects.
The development was confirmed during inspection and verification exercises conducted by officials of the Adamawa State Ministry of Energy, alongside the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), as part of efforts to expand access to reliable and sustainable electricity in underserved communities.
The inspection team was led by the Director of Transmission, Distribution and Rural Power Access, Engr. James Yohannah, alongside Engr. Wamanyi Elias Jalo and Engr. Boniface Bwalamari.
The officials inspected the installations and assessed the commencement of electricity supply to the benefiting communities.
In Hong Local Government Area, residents of Kuva Gaya and Kwakwah have started receiving electricity from the newly installed facilities. The Kuva Gaya solar mini-grid has an installed capacity of 216 kWp, while the Kwakwah facility has a capacity of 265 kWp.
Electricity supply has similarly commenced in Dirdiu and Daksami communities following the completion and inspection of their solar mini-grid projects.
The Daksami project is also expected to extend electricity supply to the neighbouring Gurum Pawo and Gurum Novan communities, further widening the reach of the rural electrification initiative.
The Ministry expressed satisfaction with the commencement of power supply, describing the projects as part of the Adamawa State Government’s efforts to expand access to reliable, affordable and clean energy, particularly in communities with limited access to conventional electricity.
The solar mini-grids are expected to provide electricity for households, schools, healthcare facilities and businesses, while supporting commercial activities and improving the living conditions of residents.
Residents of the benefiting communities welcomed the development, describing access to electricity as an important boost to their livelihoods and daily activities.
They also commended the Adamawa State Government under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for supporting infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives aimed at improving electricity access across the state.
The projects represent another phase in the state’s drive to deploy renewable energy solutions and extend electricity to rural and underserved communities, with solar mini-grids increasingly serving as an alternative for areas beyond the reach of conventional power infrastructure.
