Dare Art Alade Honours Olu Jacobs With ‘Pray For Me’ Performance

Entertainment entrepreneur Dare Art Alade performed his song “Pray for Me” at the funeral service of veteran actor Olu Jacobs on Friday at This Present House Church in Lekki, Lagos.

The performance carried particular significance as Jacobs and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, featured in the music video for the song.

Released in 2016 as part of Dare Art Alade’s Naked album, “Pray for Me” tells the story of a young man who leaves home to pursue his dreams in the city before facing the challenges that accompany his decision.

The music video, directed by Mex and filmed in Abeokuta, Lagos and Johannesburg, featured Jacobs and Silva in acting roles. Dare Art Alade had previously expressed his excitement about working with the couple on the project.

Family members, friends, colleagues and dignitaries gathered at the church to pay their final respects to Jacobs, who died on September 16 at the age of 84.

Also at the funeral, Olugbenga Jacobs, one of the late actor’s sons, presented his father’s biography as part of the farewell activities.

Among those at the service were Lagos State Deputy Governor Oba Femi Hamzat, First Lady Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Members of the entertainment industry had earlier gathered at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, on Wednesday for a Night of Tributes in honour of the late actor.

Jacobs built a career spanning more than five decades across theatre, television and film and was married to Silva, with whom he co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
