The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy, obstruction of public officers on duty, assault and malicious damage.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said that on October 3, 2026, operatives attached to the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team, while conducting routine enforcement under Operation Velvet along Yelwa Road, Bauchi, intercepted a vehicle driven by one Friday, whose surname is yet to be ascertained, and Yunana Ali.
According to him, the officers politely requested the duo to produce the vehicle particulars for inspection.
Nafiu said that instead of complying with the lawful directive, the suspects allegedly became hostile, refused to present the documents and physically assaulted the patrol team.
He added that the suspects allegedly tore the uniform of an Inspector of Police during the incident.
The spokesperson said the suspects were subsequently subdued and taken into custody at the ‘E’ Division, where discreet investigation into the incident had commenced.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged attack, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and a deliberate attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring public safety.
He reiterated that assaulting police officers while performing their lawful duties would not be tolerated, stressing that members of the public have legitimate channels through which grievances can be addressed.
The statement added that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Command urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with police officers during routine checks and desist from acts capable of breaching public peace.
