Bestselling author and former British politician Jeffrey Archer has died at the age of 86.
His publisher, HarperCollins, confirmed that the author passed away “suddenly and peacefully at home” on Monday, October 5, 2026, between writing sessions.
Archer enjoyed a writing career spanning five decades, selling over 300 million books worldwide, including famous titles such as Kane and Abel and The Clifton Chronicles.
Before his career as an author, Archer served as a Conservative Party Member of Parliament (MP) and later as the party’s deputy chairman. His political career was halted in 2001 when he served a prison sentence for perjury and perverting the course of justice following a libel lawsuit against a British newspaper.
His final novel, titled Adam and Eve, is set for release this week. He is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons, and five grandchildren.
