First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on policymakers and the larger society to protect the teaching profession, improve teachers’ welfare and elevate their status.
She made the call in a message to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, commemorated yesterday under the theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping Our Futures.”
Mrs Tinubu, who celebrated teachers for their contributions to national development, said that educators play a critical role in shaping society’s future.
She noted that teachers “shape minds, nurture dreams and prepare future generations to build a better world.”
The first lady urged policymakers and members of the society to continue to support teachers and to take measures to strengthen the teaching profession.
“I encourage policymakers and society at large to continue to protect the teaching profession, improve teachers’ welfare, and elevate their status,” she said.
Senator Tinubu also congratulated teachers across the country on the occasion, acknowledging their commitment to educating and preparing future generations. She wished teachers a happy World Teachers’ Day.
