A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father, Musa Mohammed, during the ongoing Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promotion examination in Abuja.
Monsuru was reportedly caught on Wednesday, the third day of the examination, while writing the promotion examination on behalf of his father, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
The examination, conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, is part of the promotion exercise for FCT civil servants.
The suspect was apprehended by security personnel deployed to monitor the examination on the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
During preliminary questioning, Monsuru reportedly claimed that his father was sick and had directed him to sit for the examination on his behalf.
He, however, told security personnel that his father was within the NOUN premises, where the examination was being conducted.
When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru said he was between 67 and 68 years old.
However, his father gave a different account, claiming that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Further questioning revealed that Musa Mohammed said he completed his secondary education in 1982 and primary education in 1977.
The discrepancies in their accounts reportedly raised further questions during the interrogation.
Both father and son were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether further disciplinary or legal action will be taken.
