Benue: We Are Fighting Insecurity Through Construction Of Roads – Guma LGA Chairman

The chairman of Guma local government council in Benue State, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has disclosed that his administration is supporting the fight against security challenges through construction and opening of rural roads.

Orwough said governor Hyacinth Alia has directed every local government chairman to ensure there is adequate security in his or her local government.

Addressing a news conference in Makurdi to mark his two years in office, Orwough said he has implemented several development projects across different council wards based on identified community needs.

He noted the ongoing construction of a Police Station at Udei, Nyiev Council Ward and reconstruction of the Daudu Police station.

Orwough added that his administration provided vehicle and motorcycles to support security operations.

According to him, “The Governor of Benue State deemed it necessary to direct every local government chairman to ensure that there is adequate security in his or her local government. Of course, one of the ways we are supporting security operations is by opening up roads”

“I am speaking as a local government chairman, and we are carrying out these projects based on the resources available to us.

Guma council boss stated that, “We will continue working to open up roads. If the state and Federal Governments, as they have indicated, take responsibility for roads that fall under their jurisdiction and construct them for us, we will appreciate it. The condition of the roads is creating serious problems for the local government because security personnel cannot respond to emergencies as quickly as expected due to the poor state of the roads”

“We have achieved some things, but I will not stand here and say that everything, has been done. There is still a lot of work to do. There are roads that require attention. There are communities that need more water facilities. There are healthcare needs to address”

Orwough added, “There are security challenges that require continuous attention, and there are ongoing projects that must be completed. For me, the work continues. My commitment is to ensure that we build on what we have started, complete ongoing projects and respond to the needs of more communities across Guma” he said.
