Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has disclosed that his administration is set to commence the recruitment of an additional 3,000 teachers for basic education schools in the state.
The governor made the disclosure on Monday, October 5, 2026, during the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola.
The theme of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping Our Futures,” brought together teachers from the 21 local government areas of the state.
Representing Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the occasion, Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, reiterated that a teacher is not someone solely confined to the four walls of a classroom, but an intellectual and spiritual guide who mentors students with the aim of helping them spread their wings and reach their full potential.
Farauta said, “To drive home this surgical transformation, we have embarked on strategic institutional reforms. We have just created the Teaching Service Commission to oversee the entire teaching anatomy, from teacher recruitment, deployment and promotion.”
According to her, education has continued to occupy a prime place on the administration’s development agenda, noting that the government is investing heavily in learning infrastructure, teaching aids and furniture for schools.
She congratulated teachers across the world on the celebration, describing teaching as a profession that transcends nobility to humanity. She assured them that the administration would continue to stand by them at all times.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Faisal Abubakar Mohammad, said the theme of this year’s celebration highlights the vital role of teachers in shaping the future of Adamawa State.
He emphasized that teachers are builders of knowledge, character and human capital, adding that their contributions to the development of the state cannot be overemphasized.
According to him, quality education requires the collective commitment of government, teachers, parents, communities and other stakeholders.
“As we celebrate our teachers, let us recognize, support and work with them to build a better and more prosperous Adamawa State. Investing in teachers is investing in the future of Adamawa State,” Faisal said.
The NUT Chairman thanked Governor Fintiri for his efforts aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning in the state, while expressing hope that more qualified teachers would continue to be employed where necessary.
He said the achievements recorded in the education sector demonstrate the administration’s commitment to investing in the future of children and the development of the state.
Faisal also appealed to the Governor to extend the gesture to teachers in primary schools by approving and implementing their due promotions, saying such intervention would further boost the morale and dedication of primary school teachers.
He further called for regular training and retraining of teachers to keep them abreast of current developments in the education sector.
“To our teeming teachers, I salute you on this auspicious occasion of the World Teachers’ Day celebration. Our silent labour, commitment, perseverance and resolve to build an egalitarian society through the service we render is indeed commendable,” Faisal said.
He reaffirmed the NUT’s commitment to the overall development and welfare of the teaching workforce in the state.
