Group Urges Makinde To Probe Woman, Oloolu Incident

The Political Awareness Group (PAG), the political advocacy arm of the Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) haa expressed concern over the disturbing allegations arising from the reported incident involving a young woman, Wasilah, during the Oloolu masquerade festival in Ibadan.

The group’s chairman, Dr. Lukman Tunde Fasasi and the general secretary,  Adesola Miftaudeen Bamidele in a joint statement on Thursday called on the state government to break its silence on the alleged Oloolu masquerade incident.

The allegations, the group noted which have gained widespread public attention, include claims of unlawful detention, humiliation, coercion, extortion, and other violations of her fundamental rights.

“While PAG is mindful that these allegations remain to be independently investigated and established, they are too grave to be ignored by any responsible government.

“The continued silence of the Oyo State Government has inevitably generated public concern and speculation.

“In matters touching on the safety, liberty, and constitutional rights of citizens, silence is rarely reassuring. Government owes the people a duty to demonstrate that justice will not only be done but will be seen to be done”, it said.

According to the group, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees every citizen the right to dignity of the human person, personal liberty, freedom of movement, and freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.

These constitutional guarantees, it added apply to every Nigerian without exception.

“While PAG recognizes and respects the rich cultural heritage of our people, no cultural practice or tradition should operate outside the bounds of the law or diminish the rights guaranteed by the Constitution”, it said.

PAG therefore called on governor Seyi Makinde and all relevant security and law enforcement agencies to institute a prompt, transparent, impartial, and credible investigation into the allegations.

“If the allegations are found to be false, the public deserves an official clarification. If they are substantiated, every individual found culpable, regardless of status, influence, or affiliation—should be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

“This matter transcends culture, religion, or politics. It is fundamentally about justice, accountability, and the protection of the constitutional rights of every citizen.

“The confidence of the people in government is strengthened when allegations of injustice are addressed openly, fairly, and without fear or favour.

“PAG remains committed to promoting good governance, the rule of law, and the equal protection of all citizens”, it said.

It urged the state government to act decisively so as to reassure the public that no person or group is above the law and that every resident of the State can enjoy the full protection of the Constitution.
