Accord Dismisses Imumolen’s Support For APC Candidate, Predicts Victory In Osun

The Accord Party has dismissed the decision of its expelled former 2023 presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, to endorse the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiyi, describing him as a politician without the electoral influence to determine the outcome of Saturday’s election.

In a statement issuedyesterday by its national chairman, Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the party said Imumolen no longer represents Accord and cannot speak on its behalf.

The party reacted to Imumolen’s appearance at an APC campaign rally in Osogbo, where he reportedly declared support for Oyebamiyi ahead of tomorrow’s governorship election.

Accord described Imumolen as a “political hireling and hustler” and claimed that he had no political structure capable of influencing the election.

“Imumolen attended the APC rally in Osogbo, where he backed its candidate,” the party said, adding that the development was evidence that he was no longer a member of Accord.

The party also rejected the description of Imumolen as a “factional chairman” of Accord, insisting that there was no faction within the party.

According to Accord, Osun remains one of its political strongholds and residents are firmly behind Governor Ademola Adeleke. The party expressed confidence that it would achieve what it described as a landslide victory in Saturday’s election, saying such an outcome would further consolidate its position in the state and improve the delivery of democratic dividends to residents.

Accord also accused the APC of resorting to violence, intimidation and harassment because of fears of electoral defeat.

The party alleged that federal institutions, particularly the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had been used to suppress the Osun State Government, residents and Accord members in an attempt to influence the election.

Accord urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral and conduct what it described as a free and credible election. It similarly called on security agencies to remain impartial and professional in carrying out their statutory duties before, during and after the election.

The party further appealed to the international community, including the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, the African Union, ECOWAS, the United States and the United Kingdom, to closely monitor the election and sanction anyone found to have violated electoral rules.

Accord said it was confident of victory, citing what it described as Governor Adeleke’s achievements and transformational leadership in Osun State.

“The party is set and ready for the governorship election and expresses confidence to win, banking on Governor Adeleke’s achievements and transformational leadership in the state,” the statement said. Accord called on all stakeholders to ensure that the Osun governorship election sets a new national standard for election conduct in Nigeria. The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, 15 August 2026.
