Former Boxer Prichard Colón Dies At 33

Former professional boxer Prichard Colón has died at the age of 33, eleven years after sustaining life-altering head injuries during a 2015 bout.

His father, Richard Colón, announced his passing in a social media statement on Thursday, expressing gratitude to supporters for years of prayers and love.

Colón, who was a former Youth Pan American gold medalist, turned professional in 2013 and held an impressive record of 16 wins in 17 matches before his career was cut short.

The life-changing incident occurred in October 2015 during a super welterweight fight against Terrel Williams in Fairfax, Virginia. During the bout, Colón sustained illegal punches to the back of the head, causing brain trauma that left him in a coma for months and permanently dependent on care.
