Six people, including the suspected gunman, have died following a series of shootings across Michigan on Friday, August 14.
Michigan State Police said the first incident was reported at about 11:40 a.m. local time at a home on South LaChance Road in Lake Township.
When troopers arrived, they found three people dead and another person critically injured. The injured victim was taken to a local hospital.
Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, who had reportedly left the scene before officers arrived. A large-scale search was subsequently launched, involving Michigan State Police emergency teams, aviation units and canine teams.
As the manhunt continued, authorities discovered another deceased person at a separate home in Missaukee County.
Hickman’s vehicle was later found in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake in Caldwell Township. Police subsequently located the bodies of Hickman and another person nearby.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
