The Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), a support group of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has described the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the just-concluded
Osun State governorship election as a clear pointer to what Nigerians should expect in the 2027 general elections.
The group, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner, said the outcome showed that Nigerians were tired of what it described as intimidation, harassment and poor governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement, signed by the group’s spokesperson, Peter Emeka, said the determination of Osun voters to cast their ballots and protect their votes had exposed what it described as the myth of political invincibility built around President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It said the outcome was a clear message that determined voters could defeat the President, the APC and their interests in 2027.
The group noted that despite alleged acts of intimidation and violence during the election, the people of Osun remained resolute and ensured the defeat of the APC.
“The people of Osun defeated President Bola Tinubu, 32 APC governors who were on ground, and the police.
“Despite all the harassment, intimidation and reported killings, Adeleke still triumphed through the power of the people. This is democracy in action,” Emeka stated.
The GMN spokesperson commended Osun voters for their resilience and determination to protect their votes.
“We salute the good people of Osun who stood their ground to ensure the APC was defeated.
“The people of Nigeria are ready to send the APC packing in the 2027 general election.
“In 2027, the masses are going to collect APC money and then vote for opposition parties. That is the new political reality,” he said.
Emeka added that the outcome of the Osun election should serve as a signal to the APC, stressing that Nigerians would reject any party that failed to deliver good governance, security and improved welfare.
The group congratulated Adeleke and the people of Osun State on the outcome of the election, describing their conduct as a defence of democracy.
It also reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
