APC Bauchi Welcomes Over 150,000 New Members Amid Statewide Surge

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has announced that more than 150,000 people have joined the party in a recent wave of political realignments, with the figure continuing to rise.

In an official statement signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Hassan, the party said lists containing approximately 117,000 new members were formally presented at a major gathering of party leaders and supporters. The lists were submitted by APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Farouk Mustapha; Hon. Shittu Zaki, a former political adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed; and Hassana Arkila.

Hassan confirmed that additional registrations and defections across the state have pushed the total beyond 150,000. Among the new members are Hon. Hamza, a former chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), along with about 20 former local government area chairmen.

A former member of the House of Representatives has also joined, bringing supporters previously linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). They are joined by other former office holders, political organisers, community leaders, women, young people and grassroots supporters from across Bauchi State.

The statement described the movement as evidence that the APC is expanding beyond individual personalities and established political blocs, with people from varied backgrounds and former affiliations choosing to work within the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Many of the new entrants cited the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the growing impact of federal government interventions in Bauchi State as key reasons for their decision.

The party particularly noted recognition of the work of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, whose leadership of health-sector reforms and interventions in Bauchi and elsewhere has strengthened confidence in the APC.

Hassan commended Farouk Mustapha, Shittu Zaki, Hassana Arkila and other leaders for their community-level engagement. He also acknowledged ongoing mobilisation by Zainab Babban Takko and other stakeholders whose supporters have declared for the party.

While hailing the scale of the influx, the chairman stressed that political strength is not measured by numbers alone. He said the new registrations must be fully documented, integrated into ward and local government structures, and translated into sustained participation.

Collation and verification of membership records will continue as further returns arrive from across the state.

The APC Bauchi State Chapter welcomed every new member as an equal stakeholder and urged existing members to receive them in a spirit of unity.

It called on the new entrants to contribute actively to building a disciplined, inclusive and formidable party, adding that the chapter remains open to all citizens who believe in accountable leadership and national renewal.

“The movement now gathering across Bauchi is only beginning,” the statement concluded.
