National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, has applauded the Kano State government for promoting creativity, entrepreneurship and economic expansion in the state.
The commendation was made by the leader of the NIPSS Senior Executive Course 48, 2026 delegation, Brig.Gen. L.A. Jimoh, at a dinner marking the end of the delegation’s one-week study tour of Kano.
The tour focused on the theme, “Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
Jimoh described Kano as a major historical and modern centre of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, trade and human capital, noting that the state had huge potential to drive the growth of the orange economy.
According to him, Kano’s rich history in commerce, textiles, leatherwork, fashion, agriculture, manufacturing and creative expression provides a strong foundation for developing the sector.
He said the delegation also identified opportunities in traditional crafts, film, media, design, music, publishing, cultural tourism and digital enterprise.
Jimoh specifically commended the state government for reviving 26 entrepreneurship skills training schools, saying the initiative had equipped thousands of youths with vocational skills, working tools and start-up capital.
He noted that such interventions could generate wealth, empower women and youths, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen Kano’s contribution to the national economy.
Earlier, the state governor, Abba Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, said the orange economy remained a vital catalyst for job creation and economic growth.
Yusuf said strategic investments in the sector would add value to economic development in Kano and Nigeria.
He commended NIPSS for its contribution to national development and appreciated the delegation for selecting Kano for its study tour.
The governor said the participants had opportunities to interact with government institutions, traditional leaders, private sector operators and members of the public, as well as visit key cultural sites and markets.
He expressed optimism that the engagements would provide useful insights into Kano’s development realities, economic challenges, hospitality and entrepreneurial spirit.
The chief of staff to the Governor, Dr Suleiman Wali Sani, also thanked the delegation for choosing Kano for the study tour.
