The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies has commended the Kano State Government for promoting creativity, entrepreneurship and initiatives aimed at expanding the state’s economy.
The commendation was made by the leader of the NIPSS Senior Executive Course 48, 2026 delegation, Brigadier General L.A. Jimoh, during a dinner marking the end of the delegation’s one-week study tour of the state.
The study tour focused on “Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
Jimoh described Kano as a major centre of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, trade and human capital, noting that its long history in commerce, textiles, leatherwork, fashion, agriculture, manufacturing and creative industries provided a strong foundation for the growth of the orange economy.
He said the delegation identified huge opportunities in traditional crafts, film, media, design, music, publishing, cultural tourism and digital enterprise.
Jimoh particularly commended the state government for reviving 26 entrepreneurship skills training schools, which he said had equipped thousands of youths with vocational skills, working tools and start-up capital.
He noted that the initiatives could generate wealth, empower women and youths, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen Kano’s contribution to the national economy.
Earlier, the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, said the orange economy remained a major catalyst for job creation and economic growth.
Yusuf said strategic investment in the sector would contribute significantly to economic development in Kano and Nigeria.
He commended NIPSS for its contribution to national development and thanked the delegation for selecting Kano for the study tour.
The governor said the participants had interacted with government officials, traditional rulers, private sector operators and members of the public, while visiting cultural sites and markets across the state.
He expressed optimism that the engagements would give the delegation a better understanding of Kano’s development challenges, entrepreneurial strength and economic potential.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Suleiman Wali Sani, also thanked the delegation for choosing Kano as a study destination.
