A forensic pathologist has detailed the fatal injuries sustained by American rapper Tupac Shakur during the ongoing Las Vegas murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis.
Testifying on the second day of the trial, Dr. Lisa Gavin, a medical examiner for Clark County, Nevada, explained that a bullet entered Shakur’s chest, damaging his lung and causing it to bleed and collapse.
She added that doctors were forced to remove the damaged lung in a bid to save his life, while additional bullets caused severe injuries to his abdomen. Shakur died in a hospital six days after the September 7, 1996 drive-by shooting.
Members of Shakur’s family turned their eyes away from the courtroom screens, while one relative walked out of the room as autopsy photos were shown to the jury.
Davis, 63, is accused of orchestrating the fatal shooting in retaliation for an altercation involving his nephew hours earlier outside a Las Vegas boxing match. He has pleaded not guilty to murder charges, with his defence team maintaining the prosecution’s claims are unfounded.
