The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has uncovered another fake agency operating under the name National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office within the premises of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this to State House correspondents after briefing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the development.
According to him, the discovery was made in the course of the commission’s broader investigation into the Promotion Council (PFIPC) and procedural weaknesses in the public service.
He said the fake agency or office had been illegally allocated office space within the premises of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Aliyu said the promoter of the fake agency, George Buchi Nwabueze, was discovered to also operate under other variations of his name, including George Nathan, George Nathan Nwabueze, Hon. George Buchi Nwabueze, Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and George Nwabueze.
The ICPC chairman said the commission had interacted with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to ascertain vital information regarding the fake agency or office under investigation.
“I have briefed Mr. President comprehensively on these new developments,” Aliyu said.
Following the briefing, President Tinubu directed the immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze.
The President also directed the immediate suspension of three Permanent Secretaries: M.S. Danjuma, Engineer Nadungu Gagare and Richard P. Pheelangwah.
The ICPC said the discovery formed part of its ongoing investigation into fake agencies and procedural weaknesses in the public service.
