The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s Campaign Council list as an assembly of disconnected politicians who do not command the requisite public affinity, loyalty and confidence to drive a winning presidential campaign.
The party asserted that the list is populated mostly by known political sycophants, inconsistent characters and ideological turncoats, including failed state governors who were recently booed in Osun State, as well as ethically challenged politicians who are seeking official cover for corruption charges and other atrocities they allegedly committed against Nigerians.
The National Publicity Secretary of the APM, Abubakar Yusuf, in a statement, said the campaign list, as published by the Tinubu Presidency, had finally confirmed its earlier position that President Tinubu is not in a position to command the support of patriotic citizens because of his horrible performance in office.
“The choice of Campaign Director-General, former Zamfara State Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari, under whose failed watch banditry and mass killings escalated in the state, whose government refused to implement the national minimum wage for workers, and under whose administration youth unemployment, the number of out-of-school children and the general standard of living reached their worst levels, speaks volumes about President Tinubu’s view of governance.
“If, after three and a half years in power, President Tinubu could not muster the capacity to assemble a credible team, then it is clear that he indeed has no business being in charge of a nation as complex and demanding as Nigeria.
“In any event, our party did not expect President Tinubu to enjoy the support of well-meaning Nigerians, given his calamitous failures in governance.
“This is because any Nigerian supporting President Tinubu’s re-election is directly endorsing the re-election of a hopeless and rudderless administration under whose failed watch no fewer than 628,000 Nigerians have been killed, with over 2.2 million others, including children, abducted in just three and a half years, following the Tinubu administration’s lack of commitment to the security, safety and well-being of our citizens.
“How can any well-meaning Nigerian campaign for an administration that has ruined our economy with ill-advised and ill-implemented anti-people policies, resulting in the crippling of our national productive sectors, pushing over 140 million Nigerians below the poverty line, with an unemployment rate of over 33 per cent and a comatose national infrastructure?”
The APM told the Tinubu Campaign Council to note that its mission is dead on arrival, adding that the Osun governorship election experience should serve as a pointer that President Tinubu cannot win the 2027 presidential election.
“Of course, not when he is in a contest with a more popular candidate in the mould of the APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, who is now commanding the support and solidarity of the majority of Nigerians as the credible alternative to President Tinubu.
“Our candidate is armed with a blueprint for a new and transparent approach to governance that puts Nigerians first, prioritising inclusive human development and well-being through people-oriented policies and prudent management of resources.”
The party added that the blueprint guarantees the security of lives and property, industrialisation, massive youth employment, a national infrastructural revolution, efficient public service and sustainable prosperity for all.
The APM urged Nigerians not to despair over President Tinubu’s campaign list but to focus on the new beginning they desire and hope for under a Makinde/Daura presidency.
