FCT Police Hand Over Illicit Drugs, Suspects To NDLEA For Prosecution

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has handed over recovered illicit drugs and arrested suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

The handover, which took place on Friday, August 21, 2026, is part of the command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across the nation’s capital.

The commissioner of police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi said the Police Command could investigate and prosecute drug-related offences, but considered it important to leverage the statutory expertise and mandate of the NDLEA in handling such cases.

Sanusi stressed the importance of sustained synergy among security and law enforcement agencies, noting that effective collaboration remained critical to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents of the FCT.

Receiving the recovered substances and suspects on behalf of the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command, the agency’s public relations officer, ACN Samuel Orji, commended the FCT Police Command for the gesture and its commitment to inter-agency cooperation.

Orji assured that the suspects would undergo proper investigation and, where necessary, be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.

The FCT Police command further reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to safeguard lives and property in Abuja.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
